Unplug the Kenmore dryer's power cord before making any repairs.
Open the dryer door. Remove the screws along the inside of the door frame.
Insert the tip of a putty knife between the top and front panels. Pry the putty knife up at the two front corners to unhook the internal spring clips.
Lift the top panel. Rest the panel on the wall behind the Kenmore dryer.
Unplug the door switch electrical harness at the top of the front panel. Remove the two screws holding the front panel to the dryer cabinet. Lift the front panel off and set aside.
Move the idler pulley below the drum toward the left to loosen the belt. Slide the belt off the pulleys and drum. Lift the drum out through the front of the dryer.
Unplug the electrical connectors leading to the motor. Label each connector with a piece of masking tape to remember where they plug into the motor.
Unhook the two clips at the base of the motor. Remove the bolt from the middle of the motor assembly with a socket wrench.
Lift the old motor out of the Kenmore dryer cabinet. Position the new motor in its place.
Install the bolt in the middle of the motor assembly. Connect the two clips at the base of the motor connecting it to the cabinet.
Plug the two electrical connectors into their sockets on the new motor.
Replace the drum inside the dryer cabinet. Position the belt along the drum belt groove. Loop the other end of the belt around the pulleys. Move the idler pulley to the right to tighten the belt.
Replace the front panel. Connect the door switch harness. Install the two screws holding the front panel to the dryer.
Lower the top panel into place. Replace the screws along the inside of the door frame.
