Kenmore Gas Oven Gives a Door Locked Error

Some Kenmore gas ovens feature a self-cleaning mode, in which the oven door locks and the oven cleans itself. You can't open the oven door until the self-cleaning cycle completes and the oven cools down. This prevents you from breathing in fumes or burning yourself. If the oven still refuses to unlock after the cycle has finished, you might have a problem with the self-cleaning cycle timer.
  1. Clock Failure

    • If the cleaning cycle clock fails, the Kenmore oven will get stuck in the self-cleaning cycle and refuse to unlock the door. To solve this problem, restart the self-cleaning cycle. After two to three minutes, press "stop" to cancel the self-cleaning cycle. This should allow the oven to release the door lock so that you can open the door. You have to wait 60 minutes after you cancel the cleaning cycle to open the door. Contact your service technician to check the clock after you've done this.

    Oven Not Cool

    • After you've completed an entire self-cleaning cycle, the oven door won't unlock for 60 minutes. This allows the oven to cool so that it will be safe to open the oven door. If you haven't waited 60 minutes, there might not be a problem with the oven at all. Don't try to troubleshoot anything until at least 60 minutes have passed since the end of the cleaning cycle.

    Electrical Connection

    • Kenmore gas ovens use electricity to power some parts of the oven. If the oven isn't plugged in securely, the oven door won't unlock at the end of the cleaning cycle. Check the plug to make sure it is all the way in the wall. Tighten the plug if necessary and try opening the door again. You may have to press "Clear" before you can open the door.

    F Error Code

    • If the oven displays an error code beginning with the letter F, the oven has malfunctioned and needs to be reset. Reset it by pressing the "Clear" button. When the display clears, try again to open the oven. If you still can't open the oven, call your Kenmore service technician to have your oven serviced.
