Troubleshooting a Frigidaire Dryer That Won't Heat

Your Frigidaire clothes dryer may use two circuit breakers or fuses. The machine may still run, yet not produce heat if one of the fuses is blown or a circuit breaker is tripped--a common dryer problem. A Frigidaire dryer that is still under warranty should be repaired by a qualified service person to prevent voiding the warranty. If your Frigidaire clothes dryer is no longer under warranty, you can start troubleshooting the heating problem and get your dryer working again.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the two circuit breakers or fuses for the dryer on your home's electrical panel. Replace a blown fuse or reset the circuit breakers if they have tripped. Test the dryer by starting it again and waiting for it to heat up.

    • 2

Unplug the dryer, lift up its top and test the heating element with an altimeter if the dryer still does not heat up. Check for a reading greater than zero on a digital altimeter or no movement of the needle on an analog altimeter. Replace the heating element if you get either reading.

    • 3

Remove the thermal fuse from its housing in the exhaust duct on the back of the dryer with a screwdriver. Test it with an altimeter. Check for a reading greater than zero on a digital altimeter or no movement of the needle on an analog altimeter. Install a new thermal fuse if you get either altimeter reading.

Clean any exhaust ducts and lint traps with a lint brush to promote free airflow within the dryer. Examine the motor and heating element to ensure that they are free from lint.
