How to Switch a Whirlpool Dryer Door to the Left Opening

Whirlpool offers a wide range of automatic dryers, in both electric and gas models. The door on the dryer cabinet is typically installed at the factory to open to the right side. Depending on the location in which the dryer is installed, it may be more convenient to have the door open to the left. You can remove and modify the door in order to change which way it opens.

Instructions

  Open the dryer door. Remove the screws connecting the door hinges to the dryer cabinet.

  Lift the door off of the cabinet. Set the door down with the inside facing up. Remove the hinges from the door.

  Remove the plastic plugs on the side of the door opposite the hinges.

  Insert the plastic plugs in the screw holes where the hinges were located.

  Position the hinges on the opposite side of the door.
- 6
  Grasp the door strike on the dryer cabinet door frame with the needle-nose pliers. Pull the strike away from the dryer to remove it.

  Remove the cosmetic screw opposite the door strike. Replace the screw where the door strike previously resided.

  Position the door strike on the opposite end of the door frame. Press the strike into the hole until it snaps into place.

  Position the door on the cabinet. Install the hinge screws to secure the dryer door to the Whirlpool dryer.
