How to Detach the Pressure Switch From a Whirlpool Duet Washer

The Whirlpool Duet is an electric clothes washer equipped with a pressure switch built into the door frame. Like most electric washers, the switch cuts off the appliance when the door is opened if the Duet is running a cycle. This is a safety feature. The switch closes under pressure from the washer door, which must be closed securely to activate the switch. Detaching this part involves raising the washer panel using common tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Duet power cord from the wall.

    • 2

Remove the screws on the left and right side of the control console. Flip up the console toward the back of the Duet to move it out of the way, taking care not to pull out any of the wires connected to the back of the controls.

    • 3

Insert the tip of a flat-blade screwdriver under each of the metal clips on the left and right back corners of the Duet at the top. Pop out the clips.

    • 4

Pry up the front edge of the Duet in the left and right corners where the top sits on the front panel. Lift the top gently toward the back of the Duet.

    • 5

Unplug the wired nylon connector from the underside of the Duet. This is the power plug for the pressure switch.

    • 6

Remove the mounting screw from the side of the pressure switch to release it from the underside of the Duet top. Detach and remove the switch.
