Instructions for Replacing a KitchenAid Superba Door Glass

The KitchenAid Superba door glass allows you to see inside your oven as your meal cooks. However, when the interior glass gets dirty on the inside or breaks, it becomes next to impossible to see through it. The window in the oven door consists of three layers: the exterior glass panel, the interior glass panel and the glass panel the sits between the two. To replace the glass requires removing the door from the oven and dissembling it.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the KitchenAid Superba oven from the wall if it is a part of a slide-in range. Turn off the oven breaker in your home’s main breaker panel if the oven is part of a wall unit or part of a drop-in kitchen range.

    • 2

Open the oven door to access the hinge locks located at the top of the hinges where they attach to the body of the KitchenAid oven. Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the top of the hinge and the oven cabinet. Flip the hinge lock forward toward the oven door. Some KitchenAid hinge locks cover the exposed hinge and do not connect to the body of the oven. Use your thumb and forefinger to pull the hinge lock up and away from the oven door.

    • 3

Lift up on the oven door as if to shut it. When the door is within 10 inches of the body of the oven, lift the door up and off the hinges. Move the oven door to a sturdy work surface. Lay the door on your work surface with the inside of the oven door facing up.

    • 4

Remove the door handle screws located at the top of the oven door. These screws may be located along the top edge of the oven door or along the back of the door.

    • 5

Remove the screws along the bottom edge of the oven door to disconnect the outer door frame and exterior glass. Lift the inner door from the outer door.

    • 6

Remove the screws holding the hinges to the KitchenAid Superba oven door. Your KitchenAid door may have one or two screws holding the hinge to the door depending on the age of your oven. Remove the hinges from the oven door.

    • 7

Turn the door over to access the screws holding the glass frame retainer panel to your oven door. Remove all screws surrounding the glass. Lift the retainer panel off the door to expose the inside glass and the glass frame.

    • 8

Lift the glass frame from the oven door. Lift the original glass from the inner door panel opening. Insert the replacement glass into the inner door panel opening, and set the glass frame on top of the replacement glass.

    • 9

Reinstall the glass frame retainer panel onto the oven door. Do not overtighten the screws when attaching the glass retainer frame to the oven door, as this action could cause the new glass panel to crack.

    • 10

Turn the oven door over and insert the hinges into the door. Secure the hinges with the screws you removed previously.

    • 11

Place the inner oven door into the outer oven door. Replace the bottom screws and the door handle screws.

    • 12

Install the oven door into the body of the oven. Close the hinge locks to secure the door to the oven. Reconnect the electricity to your KitchenAid Superba oven.
