Unplug your Whirlpool model RF378PXGQ range.
Open the oven door and remove the two Phillips-head screws located under the bottom edge of the front of the cook top. Slide the cook top forward and lift it up. Swing the cook top open until it rests against the control panel. Close the oven door.
Remove the two Phillips-head screws holding the hot surface indicator to the front of the cook top.
Slide the left side of the element bracket toward the front of the cook top until the bottom corner can be unhooked from the mounting hook. Hold the top corner in place to prevent it from unhooking. Remove the screws holding the bottom left element to the bracket. Slide the element off the bracket and lay it on top of the oven body. Repeat this process on the bottom right and center element.
Remove the screws from the top two elements and remove the elements from the bracket. Lift the bracket until the top unhooks and remove the bracket from the cook top.
Pull straight up on the cook top to remove it from the hinges.
Align the hinge pins of a new ceramic cook top with the notches in the tops of the hinges. Slide the cook top into the hinges until the pins fit in the notches.
Hook the top of the element bracket on the mounting hooks at the front of the cook top. Slide the bracket down to lock it in place. Install the upper elements on the bracket using the mounting screws.
Mount the lower right, center and lower left elements on the bracket using the mounting screws. Mount the top two elements to the bracket. Install the hot surface indicator on the front of the cook top using two Phillips-head screws.
Lift the element bracket until you can hook all four corners onto the mounting hooks. Slide the bracket down to lock it onto the hooks. Open the oven door. Lower the cook top and slide it toward the back of the range until it locks into place. Insert and tighten the two screws on the bottom edge of the cook top. Close the oven door and plug in the range.
