How to Replace the Electrolux Water Valve on a Frigidaire

Frigidaire refrigerators are manufactured by Electrolux. Many of the replacement parts for a Frigidaire are sold under the Electrolux brand name. This includes the water valve assembly used in refrigerators with an ice maker and, on some models, a water dispenser. If the valve breaks or malfunctions, the ice and water features may not work. Replacing the part takes less than an hour to do. Buy a replacement part from Electrolux or take the old part to an appliance store to match with a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the round or oval knob on the supply hose clockwise as far as it will go. The supply hose hooks up to the back of the Frigidaire. The knob may be on the hose below the sink if it is not behind the refrigerator.

    • 2

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet then pull the appliance away from the wall far enough to access the back panel.

    • 3

Take out the bolts in the service panel near the base of the Frigidaire where the supply hose enters the appliance ith a nut driver. Remove the panel and slide it out of the way along the supply hose.

    • 4

Twist the nut on the end of the hose counterclockwise where it attaches to the valve with an adjustable wrench then set the end of the hose in a bucket to drain out the remaining water in the line.

    • 5

Disconnect the wires from the metal contacts on the valve. Pull each wire by the crimped-on connector, rather than the wire itself, because you will need to reattach them later.

    • 6

Take out the bolt in the metal bracket where it is connected to the valve with the nut driver. Leave the other end of the bracket bolted to the inside of the appliance. The valve assembly can now be removed from the refrigerator.

    • 7

Clamp the new valve to the bracket with the bolt removed in Step 6. Slide the wire clips onto the new valve's contacts.

    • 8

Wrap the short length of threaded pipe on the new valve with plumber's tape. This helps prevent leaks in the supply hose.

    • 9

Twist the nut on the end of the supply hose onto the wrapped pipe inlet on the new valve. Tighten it with the wrench.

    • 10

Open the valve in the supply hose, by unscrewing the knob, to let water flow to the new valve. Check for leaks and tighten the nut on the supply hose with the wrench if necessary.

    • 11

Reattach the service panel with the bolts and nut driver. Remove the bucket and wipe up any spilled water with an old towel. Dry your hands.

    • 12

Plug in the Frigidaire's power cord and push the refrigerator gently against the wall in its original spot.
