The Knob Is Broken on the Stove

Removing Knobs

• Each knob has a hollow center on the dial’s back that fits directly onto a metal spike on the stove. When the spike turns, it adjusts the oven temperature, or turns on the burner or broiler. Take off the broken knob by pulling it straight off. Some come off easily, but others require more force.

Fixing Knobs

• When the knobs break, it is often because the knob splits or shatters in several pieces. Pull the components off the oven and glue the pieces together with epoxy. Do not to get glue in the hollow crevice in the back of the knob. If you do, the knob will not fit on the oven. Let the epoxy completely cure before putting the knob back on the oven.

Drawing on the Knobs

• In some cases, the numbers and lettering on the knob wear off, making it hard to set the oven to the correct temperature. Remedy this by placing an oven thermometer inside the oven and turning it the oven on. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes to reach a consistent temperature. Use the oven thermometer as a guide for marking the knob with a permanent marker.

Replacing Knobs

• In some cases, it is easier to purchase a new knob and place it back on the stove. Purchase a new knob directly from the manufacturer. Pop off the old knob and press the new knob back in its place.
