My KitchenAid Dishwasher Is Stuck on the Heavy & Normal Cycle

The KitchenAid dishwasher typically runs its normal wash cycle for 105 minutes for light to medium cycles and 120 minutes during its heavy wash cycle, but it runs for longer periods if the washer is overloaded. An overloaded or improperly loaded dishwasher interferes with the appliance's ability to balance the load and thoroughly clean the dishes, and it can increase the washing time or cause a stuck cleaning cycle.
  1. Door Problems

    • A door that's ajar prevents the dishwasher from completing a wash cycle, as the dishwasher automatically detects the open door and pauses the cleaning cycle. The dishwasher's sprayer stops within a minute after the door is opened and pauses the cycle until the door is shut and the "Start" button is pressed.

    Appliance Errors

    • The indicator lights on the dishwasher's control panel blink repeatedly if the dishwasher experiences an error during the cleaning cycle, which typically requires power cycling the appliance to fix the problem. Professional service is required if the "Clean/Complete" light blinks once while the cycle status indicator light blinks.

    Water Problems

    • The main water supply must be on for the dishwasher to operate. Otherwise, the dishwasher flashes the "Normal" or "Heavy" lights but will not fill with water. The water supply line may be kinked, which prevents water from properly flowing to the dishwasher when a cycle is selected. Low water temperature affects the dishwasher's cleaning time, as cycles run two to three times longer than usual to wash and sanitize the dishes.

    Power Problems

    • A blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker in your home during the dishwasher's cleaning cycle can cause the cycle to become stuck during a load wash. Alternatively, the dishwasher's power cord may be loose in the electrical outlet and interrupt the cleaning cycle.
