Unplug the Maytag Atlantis. Pull the appliance away from the wall.
Tape the lid shut. Slide a putty knife under the top panel to unhook the top panel from the cabinet base. Lift the top panel back, toward the wall.
Remove the screws in the corners of the front panel. Lift the front panel up and away from the appliance to remove it.
Lift the machine from the front. Have someone slide a block of wood under the front of it to hold the washer up, giving access to the components underneath the machine.
Loosen the mounting bolts on the motor to relieve tension on the drive belt. Tighten the bolts to tighten the drive belt. Realign the belt if it has slid off the drive pulleys.
Replace the front panel and top panels, once properly adjusted. Remove the wooden block with some assistance. Plug the machine back into the outlet and push it back into place.
