How to Change the Glass on a Whirlpool Wall Oven Door

A Whirlpool built-in wall oven's window is made up of three panes of glass: the outer, center and inner door glass pieces. If any of the three panes of glass should break, the oven will not operate to its full potential as the desired temperature may fluctuate because the cracked glass and the cook time may need to be extended. You can purchase replacements for the three different panes of glass directly from Whirlpool or from an appliance repair store. Once you have the replacement glass, you can replace the glass yourself in just a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to the Whirlpool built-in wall oven at the electrical breaker box.

    • 2

Open the oven’s door all of the way and insert a door pin, or nail, into the pinhole on the side of each of the two hinges.

    • 3

Shut the door until the pins stop the door from closing all of the way, pull the door up, and slide it off the hinge hangers.

    • 4

Lay the oven door face down onto a flat surface. The side with the handle should be facing down.

    • 5

Locate and remove the screws along the top interior side of the door’s frame and along the bottom of the door’s frame.

    • 6

Grasp the inner door panel, lift it off, and set it aside. Once you remove the panel, you will expose the center door glass and access to the outer door glass.

    • 7

Unscrew the screws along the top portion of the inner panel and the screws along the glass bracket directly below the glass. You may now lift out the outer glass and lay a new piece in. If you only need to replace the outer door glass, skip ahead to Step 13.

    • 8

Push the center glass up toward the top of the door until the glass slides out of the door liner slots. If you only need to replace the center door glass, slide the new piece down into the door liner slots, and then skip ahead to Step 13.

    • 9

Unscrew the screws that are holding the two door hinges in place, and then pull the hinge up and out of the door. There is one screw above and one screw below each hinge.

    • 10

Pull up the door liner to expose the insulation and the inner door glass.

    • 11

Lift out the insulation and the door glass and then place the new piece of glass into place.

    • 12

Replace the insulation and lay the inner panel on top of the inner door glass.

    • 13

Reverse the steps to reinstall the panels and replace the oven’s door.
