Dryer Drum Glides Installation

The dryer drum glides attach to the front of your dryer and help support the drum as it rotates and dries your clothes. As the glides wear down, they can cause the dryer drum to start making a scraping noise as the drum turns. Worn glides can also cause the drum to sag and allow a gap to form between the drum and the bulkhead. This gap can catch and tear your clothes. Replace the glides to save your clothes and your ears.

Instructions

  1. Accessing the Glides

    • 1

Disconnect your dryer from the outlet or turn off the breaker that supplies electricity to the dryer.

    • 2

Remove the screws along the bottom of the dryer beneath the dryer door. Pull the bottom of the front panel away from the dryer cabinet. This also releases the front panel from the clips at the top of the panel.

    • 3

Leave the wires attached to the front panel and set the panel alongside the dryer cabinet. If the wires aren’t long enough to allow this, disconnect the wire harness connecting the door switch to the control panel.

    • 4

Remove the four screws holding the front bulkhead to the dryer cabinet. Lift up on the bulkhead while pulling forward to remove it from the front of the cabinet and dryer drum.

    • 5

Lay the bulkhead on a stable work surface with the inside of the bulkhead facing up. Locate the two drum glides along the bottom of the bulkhead opening at about the 5 and 7 o’clock positions.

    Installing Riveted Drum Glides

    • 6

Connect a 1/8-inch drill bit to a power drill. Locate the rivets on the outside of the drum glides. Position the drill bit on the top of the rivets and drill through the rivets. Pull the riveted drum glides off the bulkhead.

    • 7

Insert the cork piece of the replacement drum glide into the slots in the bulkhead that held the original drum glides. Insert the Teflon drum glide piece over the cork with the shorter side facing the outside of the bulkhead.

    • 8

Insert the long end of one of the rivets that came with the replacement glide into a light-duty manual rivet tool. Insert the short end of the rivet through the small hole in the Teflon glide and through the small hole in the bulkhead. Squeeze the trigger on the rivet tool to rivet the glide in place. Repeat with the remaining three rivets.

    • 9

Reassemble your dryer by reversing the steps you used to disassemble the dryer. Make sure the new glides install beneath the dryer drum.

Installing Drum Glides on Glide Brackets

    • 10

Insert a heavy-duty flat-head screwdriver between the drum glide and the metal drum glide bracket on the bulkhead.

    • 11

Pry the drum glide from the bracket with your fingers or a pair of pliers. Insert the new drum glides into the slots on the metal brackets.

    • 12

Reassemble the dryer by reversing the steps used to open the front of the dryer. Ensure the new glides install beneath the dryer drum.
