Slide the front access panel up and off the unit. The internal components of the furnace will now be visible.
Examine the burner assembly. Make sure the openings of the burner are clear of dust and debris. Clean the burners with steel wool, if necessary.
Examine the ignitor. This is a metal assembly with a ceramic base located near the burner. Ensure that the wiring is plugged securely into the base of the ignitor. If it isn't, unplug it and plug it back in, making sure it is secure.
Check the flame sensor. This is a metal rod located near the ignitor, the component that ensures the ignitor is working before the burners can light.. Clean it of dirt and grime with steel wool.
Turn on the furnace via the thermostat and watch the components as the unit lights. Replace the front access panel when finished.
