How to Wire an Air Switch for a Hot Tub

Hot tub air switches operate with a burst of compressed air when a plunger is pressed in the fuse button. The air travels through a tube connected to the switch, which activates from the pressure. This closes the electrical circuit, which is wired separately from the hot tub control panel as a safety feature to prevent electrocution. Wiring an air switch takes less than half an hour using basic tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off electricity to the hot tub at the circuit breaker.

    • 2

Use a screwdriver to open the side cover panel below the tub to access the electrical components inside. The panel is typically on the same side as the control panel along the top of the hot tub.

    • 3

Follow the path of the air tube from below the control panel at the top of the hot tub to the corresponding air switch that will be replaced. Pull the hose off the switch nozzle.

    • 4

Take out the screws holding the switch to the bracket inside the hot tub.

    • 5

Follow the two wires on the switch to the point where they connect to the plug on the wiring harness. Insert the tip of a wire paperclip into the hole in the plug above each wire to release the wires. Pull them straight out of the plug.

    • 6

Insert the two wires on the new switch into their corresponding terminal holes on the plug.

    • 7

Attach the new switch to the bracket using the screws removed in Step 4.

    • 8

Push the end of the tube from the control panel onto the nozzle on the switch.

    • 9

Replace the cover plate on the side of the hot tub with screws and the screwdriver.

    • 10

Restore power at the circuit breaker.
