How to Replace the Double Burner on a Jenn-Air JEC9530 Cooktop

The Jenn Air JEC9530 is an electric cooktop with a double burner on the front right side. The burner installs below the cooktop and radiates heat upward to pots and pans on the surface. Like any electric element, the burner may wear out over time and require replacement. This relatively simple procedure involves raising the cooktop like a car hood to access the defective part. Use basic tools to replace the double burner in less than an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • Nut driver set
  • Work gloves
  • 20-inch metal rod
  • Screwdriver set

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the circuit breaker that controls the Jenn Air cooktop. Wait for the appliance to cool if any burner has been in use.

    • 2

Use a nut driver to remove the bolts below the counter or kitchen island below the front edge of the Jenn Air to release the unit from the cabinet surface. Slide off the metal retainer bar under the bolts.

    • 3

Push upward on the underside of the Jenn Air to raise the unit high enough to hold the sides from the top. Wear work gloves to prevent cuts on the sharp edges underneath the appliance.

    • 4

Raise the Jenn Air at an angle from the front to prop up the unit with the metal rod.

    • 5

Remove the screws holding the metal bowl below the right side of the Jenn Air, using a screwdriver. Set aside the bowl, which covers the double burner and helps reflect heat upward through the cooktop.

    • 6

Unplug the double burner from the electrical socket. Pull the two prongs straight out of the connection.

    • 7

Plug in the new part in the same orientation as the old burner.

    • 8

Fasten the metal bowl over the new element with the screws.

    • 9

Take out the metal rod and lower the Jenn Air gently with both hands.

    • 10

Secure the unit to the countertop using the metal bar and bolts removed in Step 2.

    • 11

      Switch on the circuit breaker.
