How to Clean the Drain Pump on a Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P

The Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P is a front-load washing machine with a drain pump and filter assembly for emptying water from the appliance at the end of the wash cycle. The drain pump is accessible through the front of the Duet, behind an access panel at the bottom. The appliance is designed to capture small objects such as coins and block these objects from clogging the drain line. Periodically cleaning out this feature helps the Duet operate at peak performance.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the Duet and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet at the end of a wash cycle.

    • 2

Insert the edge of a flat-blade screwdriver into the crevice on the left side of the kick plate at the bottom front of the Duet. Pry forward to disengage the left side, then repeat on the right side to pop off the kick plate. The pump is located at the bottom of the Duet in the center, below the laundry tub.

    • 3

Place old towels under the pump.

    • 4

Twist the handle on the white knob counterclockwise to open the drain pump. A small amount of water typically spills when the knob is opened. This is normal. Mop up the water with the towels.

    • 5

Remove any objects, including wet lint, thread or string and any other foreign material from the compartment on the pump. Wipe out the interior with the corner of a towel to remove grime.

    • 6

Screw the knob back onto the drain pump.

    • 7

Set the kick plate in position and snap it in place on the left and right sides.

    • 8

      Plug in the power cord.
