Goldstar Appliance Troubleshooting Codes

Goldstar has manufactured appliances for more than 40 years under the Goldstar brand name and other monikers. LG Electronics appliances with a 580 or 721 model number, sold at Sears, are made by Goldstar. Error codes, sometimes called fault codes, are a set of numbers, letters or both that appear on the control panel of an appliance to indicate when and why an appliance is not operating correctly.
  1. Refrigerator Error Codes

    • The failure of the refrigerator sensor (Er/rS), freezer sensor (Er/FS) or defrost sensor (Er/dS) on a Goldstar refrigerator can be caused by a break or short circuit in the wiring. A defective defrost heater or blown temperature fuse can result in the failure of the defrost mode (Er/dH). The failure of the fan motor in the freezer compartment (Er/FF) can be caused by a defective motor, loose or broken wires or loose connections.

    Dishwasher Error Codes

    • Low water pressure or a clogged water inlet can prohibit a Goldstar dishwasher from filling with water properly (1E). A clogged or defective inlet valve (FE) can also prevent the dishwasher from filling with water. A drain error (DE) indicates the drain is clogged or the drain pump is defective. A leak error (E1) indicates a leak or a defective washing motor impeller. A faulty PCB (printed circuit board), thermistor or connections can cause the motor to function improperly (L-E).

    Washer Error Codes

    • If the water does not reach the correct level in a Goldstar washer (IE or 1E), the water supply may not be on or the water inlet may be blocked. An overflow error (FE) indicates the water is too high and the drain pump will drain the water automatically. A kinked or clogged water hose or a plugged water filter can cause the washer to not drain completely (OE). A leakage error (E1) indicates the presence of a leak in the water hose connections.

An imbalance error (UE) can be caused by the laundry crowded together in one side of the drum, a small load of laundry or a tilted washer. The door open error (dE) can be caused by an open door, a bent door gasket, a defective door switch or a loose connection on the PWB (printed wire board) assembly. A pressure sensor error (PE) indicates the pressure sensor is defective, while a heating error (L-E) indicates the thermistor is faulty. If a ball sensor error shows (bE) when the “Start” or “Pause” button is first pressed in the OC Test Mode, the ball is loose or defective.

A power failure error (PF) indicates that the power has been turned off or the washer has been unplugged. If the main PWB assembly is defective or the winding in the stator assembly is short-circuited, an overcurrent (CE) will show. An eeprom error signifies the eeprom (memory board) is defective. The locked motor error (LE) can be caused by the motor harness not being connected to the stator assembly, faulty connections between the motor harness and the main PWB assembly or a defective ball sensor.

    Tips

    • Always unplug or turn off the power to an appliance before working on it. Wear safety glasses, and keep hair and loose clothing away from moving parts.
