Frigidaire Oven Broiler Will Not Shut Off

Broilers allow you to brown the top of casseroles, melt cheese on an open-faced sandwich or heat up leftover fries. Sometimes, however, your electric or gas Frigidaire oven’s broiler will be able to heat up, but it will not turn off, which can cause serious problems. Unplug the oven immediately and pursue a solution.
  1. Thermostat

    • An oven thermostat tests the oven and broiler temperature and turns the heating elements either on or off when the proper temperature is reached. Located in the back of the oven, it enables the oven to keep a consistent temperature. If the thermostat is broken, isn’t working properly or is loose, the broiler might not turn off. Fix this issue by first twisting the thermostat bulb clockwise until it is tight in the socket. If the broiler still doesn’t work right, replace the thermostat with a part purchased from a Frigidaire retailer.

    Selector Switch

    • The selector switch is the electrical hub that receives electric signals from the oven thermostat and sends them to the control panel to determine when the oven reaches the right temperature. Signals go the other way as well. When the selector switch breaks, your broiler might be able to turn on, but it might not turn off. Unplug the oven and let it cool completely before replacing the selector switch.

    Setting

    • Some ovens have a manual while others have an automatic setting. Automatic settings heat the oven to a certain temperature for a certain period of time. If your oven or broiler is unable to turn off, it might be because you’ve accidentally used the automatic setting. Cancel the automatic setting to turn off the broiler.

    Switch

    • In some cases, the broiler will not turn off because the button is broken and is unable to send an electrical signal through the selector switch to the broiler element. If this is the case, the button can't cancel the bake cycle. Fix this by replacing the switch.
