How to Change a Pump for a GE Harmony Washer

GE manufactures many appliances that make household chores easier. The Harmony washer is a traditionally-styled, top-loading machine. The pump on your GE Harmony washer is completely automatic and empties the tub of water after the wash and rinse cycles. The pump is mounted to the washer chassis and is accessible once the front panel of the machine is removed.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the washer's power cord from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Insert a putty knife in between the top panel and the front panel approximately 4 inches from the edge. Push the putty knife inward to release the spring clip. Repeat to release the spring clip on the opposite side of the machine.

    • 3

Rotate the top of the front panel outward then lift it straight up to remove it from the machine.

    • 4

Locate the white plastic pump on the lower right-hand corner of the front of the machine. Pull the wiring clip straight out of the pump. Remove the retaining bolts from the pump mounting bracket at the front of the machine with a socket and ratchet wrench.

    • 5

Lift the pump straight up and pull it forward so that you can access the hose clamps on the pump. Squeeze the tabs together on one of the clamps with a pair of pliers. Slide the clamp away from the pump. Pull the hose straight off of the pump. Repeat to remove the remaining hose.

Push the hoses back onto the fittings on a replacement pump. Squeeze the tabs together on the clamps with the pliers and slide them toward the pump. Push the pump assembly into the washer chassis. Line up the mounting holes in the pump bracket with the bolt holes in the chassis. Replace the retaining bolts and tighten them down. Push the wiring clip onto the terminal on the pump until it is fully seated.
