When removing the oven door, the only thing you'll need is a slotted screwdriver. The slotted end of the screwdriver should be thin enough to slip underneath the hinge locks. You can then pry the oven's locks up with the tool. The longer the screwdriver handle is, the better leverage you will have when prying up the locks.
Prior to removing the oven door, prepare your work area. Built-in stoves generally tie directly into a home's power supply. Locate the fuse box and turn the power off to the oven. Turn the oven's knobs to make sure that the power is off before removing the door. Set the door on a sheet or a piece of cardboard to protect the kitchen floor.
Open the oven door all the way to expose the two hinges located at the appliance's bottom ledge. Slip the slotted end of the screwdriver under the latch lock. Gently pry the latch up until it releases the oven door pins. Repeat the process on the opposite side of the door. Close the oven door then grasp each side of it near the hinges by hand. Pull the door back gently to slide the pins out of the unlocked hinges. Set the door down, being careful not to scratch its surface.
You may need to remove the oven door for regular maintenance, to perform a deep cleaning or to completely remove the oven from the kitchen. Maintenance may involve replacing the door's trim, seals or fixing broken glass. Removing the door allows easier access to the inside area of the oven when scrubbing due to grease buildup or a major food spill. Deep cleaning and maintaining your oven will ensure that the appliance works properly and has a long lifespan.
