Close the knob or lever in the gas line on the valve where it connects to the back of the Kenmore. Unplug the power cord as well. Though it is a gas appliance, the Kenmore uses a power cord to deliver electricity for the ignition system and the wiring for the fuse as well as the cycle circuits and the drive motor.
Twist the screw counterclockwise in the clamp holding the vent hose to the bottom of hte appliane at the rear. Take off the hose.
Unscrew the screws holding the rear cover plate on the Kenmore. Pull off and set aside the plate. The thermal fuse is attached to the oval-shaped blower assembly, which is made of stainless steel.
Pull the clip on the end of each wire to remove the two wires from the fuse.
Set the multimeter to check for circuit resistance, usually labeled "Rx1" on the control panel.
Touch the two testers on the end of the meter to the two contacts on the fuse. If the dryer has cooled to room temperature, the multimeter will display zero if the fuse works properly. Any numerical readout on the display means the fuse is defective.
