How to Change the Fan for the Grill on a Magic Chef Cooktop

Magic Chef, manufactured by Whirlpool, has a cooktop stove that can be built into your countertop. The cooktop has a cooling fan that operates to reduce the heat inside of the cooktop while it is operating. The fan can burn out or the fan blades can warp or break. Replacing the fan motor, or the fan blade, does not require much time and will prevent your cooktop from overheating during use.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to your Magic Chef cooktop by switching the breaker switch to the “Off” position at your electrical breaker box.

    • 2

Open the cooktop’s top and prop it open with the support rod. Review your owner’s manual if you are unsure how to open the top. Depending on the model, you may be able to unscrew the front mounting screws and lift up the top.

    • 3

Locate the fan at the back center area of the cooktop.

    • 4

Unscrew and remove the screws in the panel that covers the fan by using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 5

Grasp the fan blade and pull it toward you to remove it from the fan motor. If this is the only part that you need to replace, then slide the new fan blade onto the fan motor and reverse the previous steps to return the cooktop to its working state.

    • 6

Unscrew the fan motor from the mounting bracket, and then disconnect the wire harness from the fan motor. To disconnect the wire harness, push down and hold in the tabs that are on the side of the connector, and then pull back on the connector to unplug it from the fan motor.

    • 7

Plug in the new fan motor’s wire harness, and then screw the motor to the mounting bracket.

    • 8

Replace the fan blade by sliding it onto the fan motor.

    • 9

Replace the cover panel and screw it back on.

    • 10

Close the top and return power to the cooktop.
