How to Install a Laundry Washing Machine Tub

Washing machine tubs are the part of the machine that holds and washes your laundry. If the tub springs a leak, you can replace it with a new washing machine tub after removing the old one. Top-loading tubs are the only ones you can install with little help. If you have a front-loading washer, you should contact the manufacturer with how to replace it.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Slip the putty knife between the washer’s body and the lid, and lift the lid by raising the catch in the left or right corner of the machine.

    • 2

Pull the tub ring clips out of the tub fitting. Lift the tub fitting off the washing machine tub and set aside.

    • 3

Twist off the cap on the top of the agitator and unscrew the nut beneath it, using the wrench. Lift the agitator out of the tub.

    • 4

Place the spanner wrench over the spanner nut at the base of the drive shaft, which is the metal shaft in the middle of the tub. Hit the wrench with the hammer to loosen the nut, then remove it by hand.

    • 5

Lift the washing machine tub from the body and place a new tub onto the drive shaft. Tighten the spanner nut and place the agitator back over the drive shaft.

    • 6

Screw the nut back onto the top of the agitator and place the cap over it. Fit the tub fitting over the washer tub and clip the tub ring clips over it. Lower the lid over the machine.
