How to Seal Holes in Stove Pans

Two options exist when sealing holes in stove pans — applying a heat-resistant epoxy or covering the pan with aluminum foil. A heat-resistant epoxy creates a patch for the hole to extend the life of the drip pans and prevent food or liquid from leaking through to the base of the stove. Aluminum foil is not an optimal method of sealing holes, but it will create a temporary fix if you are unable to locate a heat-resistant epoxy or do not have the time to seal the pans immediately.

Instructions

  1. Epoxy

    • 1

Wash the drip pans with soap and water to remove all burnt-on food and residue. Use steel wool to remove residue that will not come off with regular washing. Let the pans dry completely before applying the epoxy.

    • 2

Mix the two components of the epoxy in a small, disposable bowl with a wooden popsicle stick or bamboo skewer. Apply the epoxy mixture to the hole in the drip pan immediately after mixing to prevent it from drying out.

    • 3

Set the drip pan upside down on a piece of newspaper to let the epoxy dry without contact on another surface. The epoxy takes a minimum of 24 hours to cure and harden but will strengthen if you let it cure up to five days.

    • 4

Place the drip pan into the burner unit and use as normal.

    Aluminum Foil

    • 5

Remove the drip pan from the stove unit and wash it thoroughly with soap and water to remove all residue and burnt-on food. Let the drip pan dry completely before covering with aluminum foil.

    • 6

Tear off a piece of aluminum foil about 4 inches longer than the diameter of the pan to accommodate the bowl shape. Center the aluminum foil on top of the drip pan and mold it into the surface of the pan. Fold the excess aluminum over the edge of the pan.

    • 7

Cut the aluminum foil away from the center bottom hole and side hole where the burner attaches to the stove. Press the aluminum foil against the edges so it creates a seal against the drip pan.

    • 8

Place the drip pan back on the stove and attach the burner through the access holes. Verify the aluminum foil does not touch the burner. Adjust the foil, if needed.
