How to Replace a GE Profile Stove Pilotless Electronic Ignition

The GE Profile gas oven ranges use an electronic ignition to spark the gas flame instead of a pilot light. The ignitor for the stove resides beneath the burners. Unlike a pilot light, the ignitor only activates when the range is turned on. If the ignitor is defective, the stove will not operate. Replace the faulty ignition to restore your GE stove to working order.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Turn off the gas supply connected to the range.

    • 2

Lift the burner grates off the stove top. Lift the stove top panel forward and up to disconnect it from the range. Set the prop rod into its slot to hold the top panel up.

    • 3

Remove the screws holding the electronic ignitor to the gas burner assembly.

    • 4

Pull the ignition up until the electrical harness is exposed. Press the tabs on the side of the wire harness connector to release it. Unplug the ignitor and set aside.

    • 5

Plug the new ignition wire connector into the electrical harness. Position the ignition on the burner assembly. Install the screws that secure it to the stove.

    • 6

Repeat the replacement steps for any additional ignitors to be replaced on the stove top.

    • 7

Lower the top panel onto the GE stove cabinet. Replace the burner grates.
