Disconnect the washer's power cord from the wall outlet. Turn the hot and cold water supply valves to the "off/closed" position.
Move the washer away from the wall so you can access the rear panel. Rotate the screw clamps on the two water supply hoses to disconnect them from the appliance. Squeeze the pinch clamp on the drain hose and slide it down the hose. Pull the drain hose off its connector. Keep a towel handy to catch water that spills from the hoses.
Pry the agitator cap off the top of the agitator assembly using a small flat blade screwdriver. Remove the agitator bolt and its washer with a 7/16-inch socket wrench. Hold the agitator at its base to prevent it from moving. Pull the agitator assembly out of the washer and set it aside.
Pad the floor behind the washer with an old towel. Lay the washer on its back to access the motor assembly on the underside. Have someone help you if necessary.
Use the flat blade screwdriver to remove the metal retaining clips that secure the pump to the motor assembly. Pull the pump off the motor shaft and push it out of the way. Do not remove the hoses attached to the pump.
Disconnect the motor assembly wiring. Pull on the plastic connectors to detach them from the wiring harness. Pry open the plastic retaining clip on the motor's base, and remove the wires.
Unscrew and remove the bolts that secure the gear case to the washer's base, using a 1/2-inch socket wrench. Remove the gear case and motor assembly from the bottom of the appliance.
Lay the removed gear case and motor assembly on an old towel. Slide the thrust bearing from the gear case shaft.
