How to Replace the Glass on a Whirlpool Self-Cleaning 465 Oven

The Whirlpool 465 range is an oversized range with a super-capacity-sized oven. The oven’s door has a glass panel that is protected by the outer and inner door panels. The glass is in place to offer a window into the oven. To access the glass to replace it or to clean it, you must remove the oven door and the panels. The process should take you only a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect power to your Whirlpool range by unplugging the power cord from the electrical outlet or by turning the breaker switch to “Off” at the breaker box. If you have a gas range, turn off the gas valve that runs to the range in addition to turning off the power.

    • 2

Open the oven door half way. The door will stay open on its own.

    • 3

Look at the hinges on the sides of the door and locate the hinge hanger hole at the top of the hinge. There is one hinge hanger hole one each door.

    • 4

Slide a screw, nail or Allen wrench into each of the hinge hander holes, and then close the oven door. The object will not allow the door to close all of the way; this step is required to remove the door.

    • 5

Grasp the sides of the oven door and lift it off toward you at the angle is it sitting. The hinges on the door will slide off the hinge hanger pins connected to the oven’s frame.

    • 6

Lay the door, with the exterior side face down, on a flat surface.

    • 7

Unscrew the screws that are along the bottom of the oven door by using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 8

Unscrew the screws along the interior door panel, including the screws that hold the handle in place.

    • 9

Lift off the inner door panel and set it aside.

    • 10

Unscrew the screws that hold the inner frame panel on, lift the panel off, and set it aside.

    • 11

Lift out the glass, wipe off the frame to remove any debris and then insert a new piece. Clean the glass before replacing the panels over top of the glass, if desired.

    • 12

Reverse the steps to replace the panels and oven door.
