My Frigidaire Range Element Stays On

The elements located on top of your Frigidaire range are powered by the control knobs on the range's control panel, and require manual adjusting to turn them on or off during use. An element that remains on is a fire hazard as the surface becomes extremely hot, and can wear down the performance of your range if it does not respond to manual commands.
  1. Manual Disconnection

    • The Frigidaire range's element can be manually disabled by disconnecting the range's power cord from the nearby electric outlet. Without a power source the range automatically shuts off and the element gradually cools down within an hour of disconnection. The element's indicator light remains lit while the element is warm, and turns off after the range cools down.

    Lock Feature

    • The lock feature disables commands on the range's control panel when active, and must be turned off by holding the lock icon for three to five seconds or until the lock light turns off. The lock feature is meant to restrict changes made when the lock is on, and continues to lock out touch commands until it is manually powered off.

    Cooktop Errors

    • An error with the cooktop prevents the cooktop element from responding to your touch commands, and requires turning your home's power supply off for a few minutes and powering it back on. Turning the power supply on and off resets the appliance, clears current errors and powers off the elements.

    Repair

    • Your range's electronic controls may be defective, and requires authorized servicing to swap out the electronic control board and restore use of the range. Unplug the range's power cord from the electric outlet, and discontinue use of the range until professional service can be performed to diagnose and solve the problem.
