My Kenmore Gas Range Oven Works, But the Broiler Does Not Ignite

Spark Igniter

• Kenmore ovens have a spark igniter that turns on the gas in the broiler and then produces several sparks. One of these sparks will ignite the broiler and cause the flame to spread along the entire length of the broiler. If the igniter isn’t working, the broiler won't work.

Control Panel

• Many Kenmore ovens have a digital control panel that sends electrical signals to the gas components in the oven. In some cases, when the broiler doesn’t work it may be because the oven isn’t set properly. Press the “push for manual” button to reset the control panel and then try to turn the broiler on again.

Oven Thermostat

• Some Kenmore ovens have several broiler settings for various levels of heat. Each oven has a thermostat that will test the temperature of the bake or broiler setting. If the thermostat is broken, the broiler wont turn on. If the thermostat isn’t calibrated properly, it may register a higher heat than the actual temperature and will cause the broiler to turn off.

Broken Dial

• Some Kenmore ovens have a dial that you’ll need to adjust to set the oven to broil. You can pop the dial off to clean behind it, but if you don’t install it properly you may not be able to turn the oven to the right setting. If this is the case, pop the oven dial off the oven, reposition it and press it back into the oven. Replace the dial if it is broken.
