How to Remove the Starter From a Toro S-200

The Snowmaster S-200 is a gas-powered, single-stage snowblower manufactured by the Toro Company. The appliance is particularly handy for removing snow from walkways and driveways during inclement winter weather. However, frequent use of the S-200 snowblower causes wear and tear on the machine's starter assembly. If the starter assembly on your snowblower malfunctions or fails, you can remove it from the machine to troubleshoot, repair or replace it.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the gas cap and insert the hose end of a siphon pump into the fuel tank. Pump all of the fuel from the tank. Cover the fuel tank opening with a piece of duct tape to prevent debris from entering the tank; do not replace the gas cap.

    • 2

Remove three hex-head screws located between the directional vanes on the front of the upper shroud. Remove two self-tapping, hex-head screws from the rear of the shroud, near the snowblower handle. Lift the upper shroud off the top of the machine and set it aside.

    • 3

Unplug the spark plug wiring to prevent the snowblower from accidentally starting while you're performing your repairs. Pull on the plastic wiring connector when unplugging the spark plug wires; pulling the wires themselves may damage them.

    • 4

Use the hex-head screwdriver to remove the three control panel screws adjacent to the starter switch.

    • 5

Examine the engine assembly to locate the wire harness. Remove the hex-head screw and R-clamp retainer wire to free the wire harness from the engine assembly.

    • 6

Locate and remove the two hex-head screws that secure the starter motor to the motor mounting bracket. Remove the starter assembly and starter switch box from the snowblower.
