How to Replace the Spark Igniter in a Gas Frigidaire

The spark igniter (also called the spark electrode) creates an electrical spark in your Frigidaire gas range that lights the gas on fire to create a flame. When it’s not working, your burners won’t ignite and you can’t cook. To replace the spark igniter, you have to replace the whole burner tube because it comes as one piece. Although the process can vary by model, it’s usually just a matter of removing the old burner tube and installing a new one in its place.

Disconnect the Frigidaire gas range from its power source by unplugging the unit from the electrical socket or turning off the power at the circuit breaker. Shut off the gas supply to the unit by closing the gas valve at the back of the stove.

Remove the burner grates, burner caps and burner bases from the main top of the stove. Unscrew the screws holding the main top in place.

    • 3

Use a prying tool such as a butter knife or a putty knife to pry the main top from the rest of the unit, releasing the clips that hold it in place. Remove the main top from the unit.

    • 4

Pull the wire connected to the electrode out of its connector on the burner tube that is not working. The electrode is at one end of the burner tube assembly. Use a wrench to loosen the nut on the other end of the burner tube assembly and pull the old burner tube away from the valve that connects the burner tube to the control knob. Install the new burner tube to the valve and tighten the nut with your wrench.

Reassemble the unit and reconnect it to the power and gas supplies. Test the unit to ensure it’s working and then use as desired.
