How to Replace the Power Cord in a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II

Minor repairs, such as replacing a power cord on a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing machine, are not hard tasks to complete. Most homeowners -- with a few common household tools -- can restore the machine to functionality themselves. Many of this machine's parts have adapter ends that you can unplug and plug back in. To replace the power cord, remove the screws to gain entry into the console compartment at the top of the machine. Once inside, you can find the wire harness that supplies energy to all components of the machine.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the washing machine away from the wall for easy access to the back of the appliance and power cord. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Locate the two small screws that lock the console lid into place. Remove each screw with a Phillips head screwdriver. Gently swing the bottom of the console face towards you and up to expose the electrical components inside.

    • 3

Locate the power cord adapter end and disconnect it from the wire harness inside the console area. If you are unsure if it is the power cord, grasp the prong end of the power cord and follow it to the rear of the console where it is secured in place by a plastic clip. This helps you locate the placement of the power cord inside the console area.

    • 4

Press the clip that secures the power cord to the back of the console plate out using a slotted screwdriver. Pull the old cord out. Slide the adapter end of the new cord through the same hole. Stop pulling once the plastic clip reaches the back of the appliance. Gently press the clip into the hole until it clicks in place and secures the power cord.

    • 5

Plug the power cord end adapter into the wire harness where the old one was attached. Swing down the console face and secure in place with the two screws.

    • 6

Plug the appliance in and complete a test run to ensure everything works properly.
