How to Install the Aprilaire 600

Remove all of the parts from the unit's box and double-check that every part is accounted for. Familiarize yourself with the unit's service manual.

Find a place to install the unit near the furnace housing or cooling coil. You should not place the unit somewhere where its air movement could be restricted.

Press down on the center tabs on the top and bottom of the unit, and base, to remove the front cover. Separate the Water Panel Evaporator assembly from the base, and pull the feed tube out of the water distribution tray.

Position the unit about 3 inches above the coil using a level. Next, trace the outline of the unit, then remove it and cut out the plenum and fit the unit into the space. Screw in six #8 x 3/4 inch Plated Hex Head SMS Screws -- which must be purchased seperately -- into the top and sides of the humidifier's interior.

Install a six inch collar on the opposite plenum and attach a 90-degree elbow to it. Slide some six inch round duct inside the unit's collar through to the support ribs. Secure the duct to the collar by screwing two SMS screws into the holes at the top and bottom of the collar. You should use enough duct to make a connection, but not so much that it sags.

Replace the evaporator assembly to the base and place the front cover back on, making sure that the nameplate is right-side up. Re-attach the feed tube to the water distribution tray.

Turn the damper handle to the "winter" (open) position if you desire the heat setting or "summer" (closed) position for the cool setting. Install the Aprilaire Humidifier Control and wire the unit according to the installation instructions that come in the box.

Attach the tubing supplied in the installation kit to the hot water heater, and to the inlet side of the solenoid valve. Once it is set up, ensure that excess water is running out of the system and through a drain. The unit is setup to discharge on the left side.
