The Light Won't Work on My Ionic Breeze From Sharper Image

The Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image uses a germicidal ultraviolet light to purify the air, as well as an electrostatic precipitator to filter airborne particles. Called ultraviolet germicidal irradiation, UV light kills viruses and bacteria by breaking apart molecular bonds. Based upon a 2002 study submitted to the Centers for Disease Control by principal investigator Shelly L. Miller, UV light kills infectious airborne diseases such as Tuberculosis by up to 90 percent. For optimal air purification and disinfection, the UV lamp in your Ionic Breeze must function properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a replacement light bulb. The unit comes with a 15-watt Philips Germicidal Ultraviolet Light Bulb, which should last for approximately 12 months. Online stores such as the Light Bulb Market, Amazon and eBay carry the correct replacement bulb.

    • 2

Switch the Mode Control to the "Off" position and unplug your Ionic Breeze from the wall socket. Locate the release tab at the bottom of the unit and lift it up to unlock the front cover.

    • 3

Slide the cover up, keeping a grip on the base to prevent the Ionic Breeze from falling over. Grip the bulb only by the metal ends or use gloves if you must touch the glass. Oily residue from fingerprints will decrease the lamp's germ-killing properties.

    • 4

Rotate the light bulb two clicks or 1/4 of a turn to the left and remove it. Carefully slide the new light bulb into place until it fits properly into the fixture. Replace the cover by pushing it down until the release tab catches.

Plug the unit back into the wall and turn the Mode Control to the "On/GP" position. This will turn on the UV lamp. Adjust the power by turning the Power Control knob to the "High," "Med" or "Lo" settings.
