How to Test a Venta-Airwasher

Venta produces the German-made Venta-Airwasher, which is a dual air purifier and humidifier system. The device utilizes cold evaporation as a filtration method. Stacks of disks rotate water through a built-in fan, which rids the air of pollutants and humidifies the room. Venta manufactures four models, suitable for rooms from 180 to 2,800 square feet. Although the machine doesn't require filter pads, the company recommends you administer water additive and cleaning solutions periodically. You can use several methods to test whether the Venta-Airwasher is functioning properly.

Insert a fragrance additive. Venta produces a line of aromatherapy essential oils called Venta-Fragrances. Turn off the system and unplug it from the outlet. Add two to four capfuls of a Venta-Fragrance to the lower housing as you would when adding water. Close the Venta-Airwasher back up. Plug the system in and turn on. Wait 10 to 15 minutes. If the fragrance permeates the room, the system is working properly.

Inspect the disk stack and lower housing for accumulated debris. When the air purification system is working as designed, water pushes through the disk stacks. Debris in the air attaches to the disks and pushes into the lower housing of the Venta-Airwasher. Turn off and unplug the machine. Press the two tabs on the upper housing at the same time to unlock the component. Lower the long and short side vents. Remove the disk stack. Inspect the disk stack and lower housing for dirt, grime and other particles. If cleaning is necessary, the system is performing as designed.

Calculate the humidity level in a previously untreated room. Close all doors and windows to the room to ensure you receive an accurate measurement. Using a hygrometer, measure the humidity level in a room. Write down the level of humidity. Fill the system with water and plug it in. Turn on the Venta-Airwasher. Allow the machine to operate without interruption for several hours. Test the level again. Compare the level to your previous measurement. If the humidity levels in the room improve, the system is functioning properly.
