How to Compare the Models of the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze

The much-touted and widely advertised Ionic Breeze is no longer manufactured and sold by Sharper Image. As of February 25, 2008, the company declared bankruptcy and filed for Chapter 11 after a series of critical reviews.
  1. Air Ionizers

    • The Ionic Breeze belonged to a class of air purifiers or air cleaners that depended on adding a positive ion to dust particles, allergens and other pollutants in a home or vehicle. Sharper Image advertised the product to produce safer, cleaner air for those who suffer from lung ailments and for the general population.

    Collected the Particles

    • The Ionic Breeze air cleaners collected the charged particles on a special metal collecting plate that could be removed and cleaned regularly to maintain effective operation. After considerable investigation and many complaints about excessive ozone release, Sharper Image modified the appliance to add negative ions to the air, thus reducing the production of ozone.

    Sales Fell

    • While some owners loved the Ionic Breeze air ionizers, others hated or feared them despite the company's improvements. The danger of ozone in the air remains a debatable subject, but declining sales forced Sharper Image to suspend manufacture of air cleaners, declare bankruptcy and close many stores.
