How to Dry Cabinet HEPA Filters

High efficiency particulate air, or HEPA, filters remove tiny particles from the air that passes through them. Scientists use HEPA filters in biological safety cabinets to control the air purity in the contained environment. Food drying and pet storage cabinets may also have built-in HEPA filters. A wet HEPA filter can grow mold and contaminate the air around it. Dry out a damp HEPA filter completely before returning it to the filtration system in a cabinet.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a flat surface in a warm and well-ventilated area that is out of direct sunlight. Temperatures above 70 degrees Fahrenheit are sufficient for speedy drying. Cover the surface with a thick towel.

    • 2

Place the damp HEPA filter on the towel-covered surface. Wait for two hours.

    • 3

Flip the cabinet HEPA filter over and place it in a new dry spot on the towel. Wait another hour.

    • 4

Press gently on the HEPA filter to see if it has dried completely. Flip the filter to a new spot on the towel again, if it is still holding moisture. Reinstall the dry HEPA filter in the cabinet.
