How to Troubleshoot an Alpine Purifier

Air purifiers can malfunction for a few different reasons. When an air purifier does not function properly, it cannot remove particles from the air. As a result, second-hand smoke, dust and other particles may have an adverse impact on asthma or allergy sufferers. Alpine air purifiers, like other brands, have components that do fail and can be replaced in a few moments. To troubleshoot an Alpine air purifier, create a checklist.

Check the power cord. Though an obvious check, it is nonetheless important. Ensure the power cord is properly plugged in. Also, inspect the cord for breaks and burn marks from electrical sparks. A power surge can sometimes cause shorts in the power cord.

Replace the Alpine air purifier's Ozone plates. If the purifier emits a spark or you see a sort of electrical "arc" jump from the room appliance, replace the Ozone plates with new ones. Order new Ozone plates directly from Alpine (see Resources section).

Check the fan blades and fan motor. Turn the Alpine air purifier off and unplug the power cord. Remove the front grill by unfastening the four mounting screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver or your fingertips. Inspect the fan blades to see if they're cracked. In addition, attempt to spin the blades manually. If the blades spin but you hear a noise, something might be caught between the blades and motor. Move the blades back and forth gently to dislodge the obstruction. If the fan blades do not turn, order a new fan motor from Alpine Air Technologies.

Ensure the fan blades are properly secured to the fan motor shaft. Tighten the assembly screws with a screwdriver if the blades wobble unevenly.
