How to Work Ionizer Air Cleaners

Ionizer air cleaners function by filtering air through a number of filters, and then ionizing the air as it leaves the air cleaner. The prefilter traps large particles such as dust and pet hair, while a second filter uses carbon to take out smells. Often there's a third high-efficiency particulate air filter, also called a HEPA filter, that removes pollen. Finally, the ionizer places a negative charge on any matter left behind. Working an ionizer air cleaner involves adjusting some controls.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the air cleaner into a power outlet and adjust the switch to the setting you need. Use the "Super" or "Max" setting for rapid initial cleaning.

    • 2

Use the "High" setting for regular fast fan-speed daytime use.

    • 3

Set the air cleaner to "Low" for use at night when you'd like the fan to run more quietly. Press the ionizer button to engage the ionizing function. The negative charge allows the particles to be trapped when they enter the air filter a second time.
