How to Replace the Filter in an Aprilaire 5000

The Aprilaire 5000 is a whole-house air cleaner that helps remove particles, dust and dirt from the air by adding an electric charge to the particles and then trapping them in a magnet-like filter. The unit can help clean the air in homes that are exposed to high levels of pollution, allergens or for those who experience dust or other allergies, have respiratory sensitivities or simply want cleaner air in their home. Replacing the filter on a regular basis is necessary to help the unit work smoothly and keep the air as clean as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off and disconnect the Aprilaire from power. Open the front access panel and slide the inner housing out of the outer assembly.

    • 2

Remove and discard the old filter.

    • 3

Set the new filter on the ground with the black pleats facing up. Grasp the sides of the plastic pleats and lift straight up to remove.

    • 4

Push in the tabs on each side of the filter housing. Pull back the short side of the frame and lower the flaps down. Repeat on the other side.

    • 5

Hold the flaps lightly while sliding the new filter into the housing with the strips facing up. Line the cardboard slit with the lip of the housing and connect the two. Close the flaps to secure the filter to the housing.

    • 6

Set the black spacers into the filter, creating a separation for each pleat. Separate the spaces by sliding them in the direction of the housing notches. Push down on the spacer to snap into place. Repeat until all the spacers are in place.

    • 7

Align the metal ridge on the air cleaner with the ridge on the filter housing. The airflow arrows on the air cleaner and the filter should face the same direction. Slide the filter into place and close the access door.
