Sponges

• Odor removing "sponges," such as The Bad Air Sponge, are commercial odor removers that eliminate unpleasant smells when placed near an odor producer. Unlike some odor removing sprays and air fresheners, sponges don't need to come in direct contact with the odor to eliminate it. The Bad Air Sponge neutralizes odor molecules in the air as well as in objects such as furniture, carpet and upholstery, absorbing bad odors. It can help get rid of smells from pet urine, cigarettes, cat litter and garbage cans.

Odor Removing Machines

• The OdorFree Ozone Generator is an odor-removing machine. It's best used in the kitchen, where the constant task of preparing and eating food can lead to funky smells. The OdorFree generator can be used to treat the entire area under effect. The odor remover comes in three models: Villa 1000, Suite 700 and Hotel 350. It works by treating odors using UV light and O3, or ozone, which sanitizes and breaks down odors.

Deoderizers

• A misconception is that deodorizers don't actually eliminate bad odors, but rather produce a smell that will temporarily remedy the situation. However deodorizers, such as those by Amrep Misty Altrasan, kill odor-causing bacteria. The product chemically bonds with the odor source instead of just covering it up and providing a temporary solution. Such products can be used on a wide range of odor sources, from cigarettes and pet elimination, to sinks and drains.

Air Fresheners

• Air fresheners often share the same misconception as deodorizers: that they are temporary solutions, or "masks." However many air fresheners, such as that of the Citruscent Odor Eliminating Air Freshener, actually kill bad odors and leave a refreshing scent in their place. The product works by absorbing unpleasant odors and filling the area with a citrus-like fragrance. Such air fresheners work on areas that are 200 feet by 300 feet for six to eight weeks before replacement.
