Comparison of Honeywell 17000 & 18155

Honeywell air purifiers filter dust, pollen, tobacco smoke, mold spores and cat dander from household air. They clean some airborne viruses and bacteria from the air, as well as germs and fungus. The 18155 Permanent True HEPA Silent Comfort Air Purifier was rated the number one choice of physicians in 1998 by Riter Research groups' "Portable Room Air Cleaners Physicians Preference Study." Both the 18155 and the 17000 Quietcare Permanent True HEPA Air Purifier are 99.97 percent effective in removing potentially harmful particles from the household atmosphere.
  1. Features

    • Both the 17000 and 18155 have permanent HEPA filter systems that you never need to replace but do need to clean several times a year. Replace their basic universal carbon pre-filters on a regular basis; a Intelli-Check electronic filter indicator light notifies you when it is time. They both have SurroundSeal technology to reduce air leaks in the system. While the 17000 utilizes QuietCare sound reducing technology to keep the noise made by the air purifier to a minimum, the 18155 uses a Silent Comfort airflow design for a similar effect.

    Dimensions

    • The 18155 is larger than its 17000 counterpart, measuring in at 18 inches high, 19 inches wide and 19 inches long. The 17000 is only 15 inches high, 13 inches wide and 17 inches long.

    Functions

    • Though smaller in design than the 18155, the 17000 has a larger room capacity and is able to handle a 200-square-foot space. The 18155 can handle a 197-square-foot room. Both can manage complete air changes every 12 minutes, however, and the 18155 has a 150 smoke CDR, or clean air delivery rate, as opposed to the 17000's 130 smoke CDR.

    Purchasing

    • Both the 17000 and 18155 are available for purchase from online retailers, though the older 17000 series may be harder to find. As of June 2011, the 17000 retails from $139.95 to $149.99, while the 18155 retails from $179.99 to $199.95.
