Plug the purifier into the wall. Inspect the fan blades to determine if they are turning. If the fan blades are not turning, it is likely that the motor is burned out. If the unit does not work at all when plugged into the wall, then the motor may also be burned out.
Watch the unit for signs of stress. Any burning smell, smoke or sparks emanating from the purifier indicate a motor that has already burned out or that is about to burn out.
Note any unusual smells, such as a burning smell or melted plastic smell. These smells can indicate a burned out motor.
Listen for unusual sounds, such as a high-pitched whine, unusually loud motor sound or a scratching or grinding sound. These sounds can be signs of motor problems.
Take the unit to a qualified Oreck repair specialist to have the motor repaired or replaced. Most Oreck units have a two-year warranty on the motor. If the motor burns out before then, Oreck will replace the motor or entire unit with a new model.
