How to Wire the Lifebreath 155 Max

The Lifebreath 155 Max Heat Recovery Ventilator allows you to circulate and filter the air in your home without subjecting yourself to drafts and cold. You can wire the 155 Max independently or in conjunction with your heating and cooling units. If you wire it independently, it will run off of the included panel, based on either manual or programmed commands. If you connect the Lifebreath to your HVAC system, it will come on when the rest of the system is running.

Instructions

  1. Lifebreath Control Panel

    • 1

Unplug your Lifebreath 155 Max -- never work on live electrical equipment.

    • 2

Tape one end of the green, red and yellow wires to the hook on the fish tape. Run the wires down through the wall from the point where you are mounting the Lifebreath control panel to the 155 Max unit.

    • 3

Remove the wires from the fish tape and tape. Strip the last half-inch of insulation from each of the three wires. Bend the exposed wire into a hook shape.

    • 4

Loosen the screw terminals for the red, yellow and green terminals on the 155 Max control panel. They will also be labeled #3, #4 and #5 respectively.

    • 5

Hook the red wire around the red terminal and tighten the screw. Repeat for the yellow and green connections. Cover the terminals in electrical tape.

    • 6

Return to the control panel installation point. Hold the wires with one hand and retrieve the fish tape from inside the wall.

    • 7

Cut the wires so that six inches are outside the wall. Tape the wires to the wall so they don't fall in while you're working.

    • 8

Strip the last half-inch of insulation from each of the wires. Push the wires into the corresponding terminal on the backplate, red to R, green to G and yellow to Y. Tighten the screws to hold the wires in place. Cover the connections with electrical tape. Remove the tape holding the wires to the wall. Install the backplate to the wall with the included screws. Affix the face plate to the backplate.

    Integrated with HVAC

    • 9

Power off your HVAC unit and disconnect it from the power source. Never work on live electrical equipment.

    • 10

Strip the last half-inch of insulation from one end of the red and two green wires. Bend the exposed conductor into a hook shape.

    • 11

Loosen the screws on the COM, NO and NC terminals on the Lifebreath unit. They are also numbered 7, 8 and 9. Hook one green wire to COM, the red wire to NO and the other green wire to NC. Tighten the screws and cover the terminals with electrical tape.

    • 12

Check the wiring of your existing thermostat at the HVAC unit. Remove the green wire, or the wire connected to the G terminal, if it's a different color.

    • 13

Attach the opposite end of the COM green wire to the G terminal on your HVAC unit. Connect the red NO wire to the R terminal on your HVAC unit. Note that both the thermostat and the Lifebreath will be connected to the R terminal.

    • 14

Twist the bare metal of the G wire that you disconnected from the HVAC terminal to the opposite end of the green NC wire from the 155 Max. Cover the splice in electrical tape.
