Facts About Edenpure Air Filter Systems

Many people who are very sensitive to smells or who suffer from asthma and allergies are able to breathe more easily with air filter systems. There are various brands available to consumers that use different methods to remove dust, mold and other particles from the indoor environments. EdenPURE is one of the few manufacturers to combine four types of air filtration technologies into a single unit. Here are some facts about EdenPURE air purifiers.
  1. Use

    • The larger model of the EdenPURE air filter system is the G-7, which is designed for use on an entire house with a range up to 3,000 square feet. The smaller Area Model has a range of 1,000 square feet. The units, which use between 30 and 70 watts of energy, are portable so that they can be placed in areas that need specific attention.

    Dirt Filter

    • When air enters the purifier, it is run through a tiny mesh pre-filter called the Primary Carbon Filter. Measuring 4 by 8 inches, it collects and eliminates the larger particles of dirt and contaminants that are found in the air. The filter needs to be removed and cleaned every 30 days, or whenever visibly dirty. The EdenPURE website recommends using a hand-held vacuum and then washing gently in warm water without soap.

    Air Sanitization

    • Air is also exposed to a photocatalytic screen coated with titanium oxide (TiO2). UV light rays from a UVC germicidal light bulb are aimed at the screen, creating super charged ions. These ions chemically bond with pollutants in the air and then break them into harmless carbon dioxide and water molecules. This oxidation process is designed to eradicate bacteria, viruses, and other airborne germs and organic materials.

    Odor Removal

    • An anion generator releases negative ions, which attach to particles in the atmosphere like dust, pollen and smoke. Once attached, the particles are heavier and drop out of the air. According to the EdenPURE website, this keeps harmful dust out of your lungs while creating a fresh smell.

    Ozone Generator

    • The air filter system includes a ceramic plate that can be turned on to generate ozone, which is released to remove unwanted odors from the air. Since ozone is a highly reactive molecule, it quickly attaches and breaks down other particles in the air, including bacteria, spores and other molecules that cause unpleasant smells.

    Cost

    • The G-7 is sold directly through the EdenPURE website for $297, while the Area Model is $227. Both models come with a one-year factory warranty. Although the washable filter screens should not need periodic replacement, the UV lamp bulb should be changed each year at a cost of $17.95 per bulb.

    Warning

    • Because ozone can be harmful when absorbed into the lungs at high levels, the ozone generator should only be used when people are not in the vicinity of the air purifier. The FDA limit for ozone production by medical devices is 50 ppm, and according to a 2007 issue of Consumer Reports, a test of the EdenPURE air filter system showed between 650 and 990 ppm produced.
