You'll need to determine right off the bat where you would like to install your electronic air cleaner. The product will work best if it is placed near (or on) your furnace or your home's ductwork, because this is where it will collect the most dust. You may also need mounting hardware, which is often sold separately. If you decide to install it on your furnace, it should be placed near the return air vent. If the openings are of different sizes, you may also need to install a transition to allow your electronic air cleaner to fit properly in place.
Next, the cleaner will need to be attached to the ductwork or your furnace. This will require placing mounting blocks below the air cleaner to keep it level. The cabinet hinge, when opened, will demonstrate the minimum clearance needed for access to the unit. Once the unit is positioned, it can be installed with sheet metal screws, slip joints or rivets. Do not puncture an area on your furnace if you are not sure whether it can handle this type of unit, because doing so is extremely dangerous.
Once the unit has been firmly secured in place using screws or rivets, you must seal it. The return air system, if not properly sealed, will allow dust to accumulate inside the clean-air stream filter, ultimately decreasing the effectiveness of your unit. Foil tape will work just fine, although a gasket-sealing kit for these types of units may be purchased from a hardware store. Finally, position the cell key according to the factory instructions and secure the handles to the unit. The pre- and post-filters will need to be repositioned inside of the device, and the access door must be placed back onto the unit in order for it to run properly.
