Ionic Pro Problems

Ionic Pro air purifiers use a three-blade system to trap and remove indoor air pollution, without the noise pollution associated with motorized air purifiers. Despite having very few moving parts, the Ionic Pro does have occasional problems---usually not because of any inherent structural flaw---that can be fixed within a couple of minutes.
  1. Symptoms

    • One of the major warning signs of an Ionic Pro problem is the device emitting a loud "buzzing" noise, reports the Ionic Pro product manual. Other problems include the indicator lights not turning on, or the clean light turns red. The main malfunction users tend to experience with the functioning of the unit itself is the suction blades not fitting back into their proper position.

    Causes

    • Almost all of the common problems owners of the Ionic Pro encounter occur from failure to follow instructions on correct assembly, reports the Ionic Pro manual. Poor or incorrect maintenance procedures account for most of the other reported problems, all of which prevent the Ionic Pro from adequately cleaning the air.

    Prevention/Solution

    • If the indicator light does not turn on, the power cords may be loose in its outlet, suggests the Ionic Pro manual. A red light usually signals that dust removal or a restart (shutting it off and then back on) is necessary. A noisy Ionic Pro indicates dust clogging the blades or that the machine is too wet and should dry for at least 24 hours. Blades that do not fit need to be reoriented according to product manual specifications.

    Considerations

    • Properly cleaning the Ionic Pro's blades requires taking them out of the unit and wiped down. The blades should be completely dry or the Ionic Pro might continue making noise. Water entering the internal mechanisms could even break the Ionic Pro. The blades and ionizing wires must go back into their original orientation for the unit to continue working, according to Ionic.

    Warning

    • The Ionic Pro emits levels of ozone below the limits suggested by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, but this does not mean the agency endorses the Ionic Pro or any other ozone generator, according to the U.S. EPA. Even safe levels of ozone can accumulate to dangerous concentrations. Ozone at ground level can cause health problems such as lung irritation and respiratory illness.
