How to Clean an Ionic Breeze

The Ionic Breeze is an air purifier originally made by the company Sharper Image. Although other companies make air purifiers under the same name, Sharper Image was the original marketer of the product before they filed for bankruptcy in 2008. Sharper Image sold more than 2 million Ionic Breezes in the first seven years it was marketed. The Ionic Breeze works by collecting airborne particles and trapping them on a removable collection grid made of steel plates. It is important to keep this collection grid and the rest of your Ionic Breeze clean.

Instructions

  1. Thorough Cleaning

    • 1

Unplug your Ionic Breeze from the outlet.

    • 2

Remove the collection grid by pulling it out of the top of the unit.

    • 3

Clean the collection grid with warm, soapy water then rinse it off. Let it dry for 24 hours before you place it back in the unit. If there is still water in the collection grid, it could damage your Ionic Breeze.

    • 4

Spray a compressed gas dusting product (similar to what you would use on a computer keyboard) on the front of the Ionic Breeze while you wait for the collection grid to dry. This will remove any particles from the wires and blow out any other dust that may have settled. Do this in the garage or outside since dust may blow around.

    • 5

Mix a solution of one part bleach and five parts water to wipe down the outside of the unit. You can use a cloth or sponge to wipe it down.

    • 6

Dry all parts of the Ionic Breeze, including the unit and the collection grid, before putting it back together and plugging it in.

    Basic Cleaning

    • 7

Unplug the unit before you begin to clean the collection grid.

    • 8

Take the collection grid out of the top of the machine. Some models have a latch you must lift to remove the collection grid, but you can simply pull the collection grid out on other models.

    • 9

Wipe the collection grid with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove any dust from the collection bars.

    • 10

Turn the unit upside down and then back up two to three times before you put the collection grid back in the unit.

    • 11

Place the collection grid back in the Ionic Breeze and plug it back into the outlet.
