How to Install Frost King Air Conditioner Panels

Frost King air conditioner side panels not only reduce drafts beside window air conditioning units but also provide insulation. Frost King Air Conditioner side panels consist of a folding foam insulation material sandwiched between rigid plastic channels. The folding insulation expands and contracts like an accordion to fit openings of any width, and self-adhesive strips on the channels mount the panel to the window frame and the AC unit's side. Thus, only the panel's height needs adjustment during installation. Standard hand tools can be used to trim Frost King AC panels to size.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of the openings on either side of the window air conditioning unit -- in other words, the height of the space that you are filling with the side panels. Lay the side panels on a flat, stable surface.

    • 2

Latch the tape measure onto the bottom of one of the panels' rigid plastic channels. Draw the tape along the channel until you reach the height of the opening. Mark the height on the channel with a marker. Mark the height on the remaining panels, four total for two panels.

    • 3

Lay a straight edge perpendicularly across one of the panels' channels and align the straight edge with the marks. Run a marker along the side of the straightedge to lay out a cut line across the panel's foam interior. Lay out a similar line on the remaining panel.

    • 4

Cut the panels to size along the lines with a pair of utility scissors or snips. Peel the self-adhesive strips from the outside edges of the panels' channels. Position the panels plumb with the window opening you are covering. Affix one channel of each panel to the side of the window air conditioning unit. Stretch the remaining channels to the side of the window frame or opening and affix them to the wall or frame.
